No one ever would expect that a simple MSN conversation with an unsigned musician with more than 95,000 Myspace friends would be sort of life changing in a way. Not only did he stay up until 1 am (UK time) to sit and talk, but he also went to Africa with Habitat For Humanity to help build houses for an African village. This shouldn’t even be called an interview, because it was more like talking to and finding my new best friend but in a stranger I’ve never even met before. Who cares if he ”likes small bums”? Just like the rest of us, he has fallen into the latest iPhone craze. Together we discussed Daughtry, Kate Voegele’s Myspace fame, Tila Tequila’s rampaging nudity, and even his tiny crush on Ashlee Simpson and on the pretty gals in LA. What’s the creepiest thing a fan has ever done for you?
Let me think… this is a juicy question! I have the funkiest fans, and they are crazy cool, and sometimes just crazy, lol.
I can’t think, darn it, perhaps it is too late.
My mind is blank.
I have been given lots of weird and wonderful things at gigs before.
Such as?
Like a pillow decorated with ‘sleepwalk with me’ on it… one of my lyrics, and a glow in the dark football. Totally cool. A girl came up to me in a shop here at home, walked up, stoped, started shaking and just looked at me… I was like… are you alright. She just didn’t say anything. I got kinda freaked out but she then opend her mouth and uttered… “you’re joe brooks right”.. I smiled and said yes, and she went bright red and turned around and just practically ran away lol. It was the spookiest thing. And a guy bought me lunch in togo’s in LA once… cause he recognised me in the queue!

I’m in LA a lot and in NY every once and a while. I love the weather in LA. And the girls are cute. But the traffic sucks

On your Myspace you express the belief that, ”I like small bums?!? Nothing wrong with that is there?” what exactly do you mean by that?
…I guess it’s kinda self explanatory. Bums. Being butts right. Isn’t that what Americans call them too?

When you say you wear things you wouldn’t usually wear, do you have any examples of the craziest things you have?
Lol, erm, yeah. Well I think that real men can wear pink. I wear pink everynow n then, I get a few strange looks but s’all good. Skinny white jeans, cool lil tribie (if that’s how it’s spelt) hats, ties. You just gotta stand out right! Everyone wears the same old stuff, you gotta mix n match!

The iPhone

Are you engulfed in the ”iphone” craze?
Lol yehhhh. I have one when im in the US. I have a blackberry for the UK but it’s crap compared with the iphone. The iphone is just so easy to use! And has everything you could ever want…apart from spare hair wax…that would be cool.
Perhaps that’s the new thing these days….phones with hair wax.
A lil part on the back with spare hair wax, the amount of times you bump into someone and look a complete state. If only you had a phone with hair wax, and all would be cool.
Or, if it despensed money too!
THAT would be HOT. That makes my ideas look rrruuubbish.

Helping in Africa

You went to Africa, correct?
I did indeed.

What an amazing experience that was!
Life changing?
Built houses for an African village, put everything into perspective. Totally. Allowed me to see first hand what it’s like and how people live in a huuuge amount of the world.
Are you planning on going again anytime soon?
Yes, i would love to! And will. Maybe not to build houses, maybe to do sport with kids in Africa, I’ve always dreamed of doing that. I recommend anyone to find a charity who do missionaries to Africa, to sign up to something that suits them and get involved! Habitat.org is a great place to start!
Perhaps make a music video there?
Yeh, I think it’s been done before unfortunately! lol

You gotta be careful about bringing charity into your music, it’s gotta be done for the right reasons…. the fact that you actually want to help as opposed to just shooting a music vid in africa and making it look all ‘saving the world’ type thing… you know? Oh, I haven’t seen Fall Out Boy’s video. I like them. Imet the lead singer briefly at an awards ceremony. It wasnt Pete… I know who he is cos he’s with that gooorgeous gal ashley… mmmm…

Yeh and let’s just remind ourselves of how much talent she has…lol. Maybe if I got my breasts out I would too… and yeh, i dont think it’s a matter of getting signed tho, I’ve had offers from labels to make me a manufactured, straight off the press type artist… I’ve also been turned down by a lot of labels! I just want to make the music that I want to make, it’s as simple as that. If a label is involved, it’s cos they share the same vision as me and they let me make my music!

I do indeedy. Only cos of the huuge exposure she’s had off myspace, cos of the Myspace records thing. She’s got a great voice!
