Free the Children

Posted by Jordan Mix

Dallas Green of City and Colour is working closely with Free the Children and Me to We to help the drought crisis in East Africa.  By purchasing a ten dollar Rafiki chain made by women in Kenya you can help feed one person for a month.  All proceeds from these chains support Free the Children’s mission to aid drought relief.  The women employed by Me To We receive fair, year-round, wages so that they can afford to buy food and other important items to continue providing for their families in this time of crisis. To see the explanatory video and purchase a Rafiki chain click here.

Madina Lake Hero Hospitalized

Posted by Jordan Mix

“There’s really no way to appropriately express our appreciation for everyone’s support.  We’ve had calls, letters, gifts, and well wishes pouring in from all around the world and it’s truly the most beautiful and genuine show of compassion and love that we’ve ever experienced.  We very sincerely thank you all.”

-Nathan Leone

While walking in downtown Chicago to meet a friend for a few drinks, Madina Lake bassist Matthew Leone was beaten and left unconscious.  Matthew was walking from his brother’s apartment to a bar down the street when he attempted to intervene in a domestic dispute between a man and woman.  As Matthew tried to call the police, he was attacked from behind and has suffered many injuries including a broken jaw, nose, and a fractured skull.  In addition to that, one-third of his skull had to be removed in order to alleviate swelling on his Read More

The School of Hard Rocks

Posted by Jordan Mix

If you are in a band and live in the Lake County area, be sure to show up at the Grayslake Oasis Monday April 12th, 19th, and 26th for a three day music seminar hosted by two guys that have been in the industry for years and “have made all of the mistakes that you are about to.”  During this seminar you will learn:

The School of Hard Rocks-how the industry got to where it is
-Where your band sits in the current music industry

- Recording, studios, mixing and mastering your music
- Duplication, distribution, promotion, supporting your music
- Labels, booking agents, management
- Avoiding the various scams of the industry

- Gigging, taking your act on the road
- Rundown of local and Chicago venues
- How to get booked in the city
- Promoting your gigs
- Setting up regional gigs, and tours
- Common misconceptions of gigging, and the industry in general

And if this isn’t enough to make you want to go, free stuff from bands such as: Alkaline Trio, Flogging Molly, and Anthony Green will be given away.  However, you must show up to get it.  For more information you can visit the official website www.seminar.gregsguitarlessons.com.  The Oasis is located at 151 Hawley St in downtown Grayslake. It is the old Park District building next to Tastee Freez and across from the Fire Station.  For more information on the Oasis you can visit www.oasisgrayslake.com.

IT’S BEEN ONE YEAR

Posted by Jenn Aguinaldo

since we brought this music site to life. Happy one year to us and happy 15th birthday to my best friend Nate. We’d like to thank everyone who helped out throughout the year. Every band who has ever asked for an interview, and all of the musicians who have helped out with promotion and chose not to ignore and overlook us because of our young age. Warped Tour is going to be amazing, and we want to meet you all. We love you!
