A Lifeless Ordinary

Posted by Jenn Aguinaldo

“I wanted it to have the coolness & stupidness of Weezer, the absurdity of the Flaming Lips, & the nonchalance of Pavement, like, ‘we really don’t give a sh*t.’ It combines all these things that I like, all these little nuggets of ridiculousness.”

Motion City Soundtrack frontman Justin Pierre could not resist his inner urge to create his own music video for “A Lifeless Ordinary,” off the band’s 2010 album My Dinosaur Life. He recently took advantage of his downtime to work on the one-take clip for the song. It took 19 tries to get it right, Pierre told SPIN.com, no surprise since making their way around an empty pool are his bandmates, random extras, and a plethora of dancers. “I haven’t had this much fun in long time,” Pierre says of the video which was directed by Shane Nelson. Pierre claims that the “making this video reaffirmed my belief that you should just trust yourself, and do things you like with people you like. Exactly what I had in my mind came out onscreen.”

The Lousy Truth

“We’re focused on writing great songs that resonate with what the band has become. If you listen to it in your car or on headphones, we want it to feel like a big, flowing rollercoaster ride – where you never quite know what’s coming next.”

Typically to the left of frontman Tom Higgenson, guitarist Tim Lopez premieres solo lead vocals on the Plain White T’s new single “Rhythm of Love” which he wrote inspired by his latest romance. The T’s will be performing on Good Morning America this August, along with the new album “Wonders of the Younger” produced by Ian Kirkpatrick releasing this October. Of the new album, Higgenson stated that it is “still very much a Plain White T’s album. The songs are sincere and melodic, no matter what the subject matter. We want to create an experience that takes our fans to an unexpected place while still giving them songs to sing along to.”
